I'm a firm believer in more skincare, less makeup. If you take better care of your skin, you'll have less blemishes to cover with makeup! Since I've started this routine, I've had less of a need for concealer, saving myself some time and cash in the long run.
Cleanse
The first and possibly most important step is cleansing. I do this every morning and every night to wash off all the excess dirt and grime. This is one of my only steps that I use a store-bought product for. My favorite is the Sens'Eyes Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser. It's advertised as an eye makeup remover, but I use it for my whole face! As the name suggests, it's great for those with sensitive skin.
I apply about a quarter sized amount to a tissue and rub it all over my face in circular motions. That tissue is brown by the end of it! Then I wash the excess off with warm water.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating is essential for sloughing off dead skin cells and any leftover "gunk" on your face. I only exfoliate my face a couple times a week, as more can irritate your skin. In fact, I exfoliate my whole body at least once a week! My absolute favorite exfoliating method is using coffee grounds. A little bit of water and coffee goes a long way in restoring your skin to it's former glory.
Tone
Toning (also known as refreshing) is an important step that most people skip over. It helps even your complexion and minimize your pores. My favorite toner is Dickinson's Witch Hazel and I use it religiously! Every morning and every night, about a dime sized amount in the palm of your hand will go a long way to bringing you healthy, glowing skin. I buy mine from Walgreen's because it's only $6, and it's a huge bottle so it will last you months!
Moisturize
Even if you have oily skin, moisturizing is critical. As far as store-bought moisturizers go, I really enjoy Naobay Oxygenating Cream Moisturizing, but it's a little expensive so I haven't bought the full product, and I've just been surviving on a free sample I got a while back. You don't need a lot of product to cover your whole face, plus it smells like a creamsicle, so it's a win-win! It also doubles as a makeup primer.
But I also love coconut oil. I could go on and on about coconut oil and it probably deserves its own post. It's a little heavy, so I recommend using it sparingly. I only use it at night to prevent looking oily throughout the day.
